Meet Your Friend: Megan

In an effort to get to know the participants in our Triple F nights everyone will take turns answering some food related questions in a series of blogs called “Meet Your Friend.”

Our next guest star is Megan!   Megan was the one who came up with this great website and took a great idea and made it better.  It’s all in the Details, as she would like to say (for our group, they will understand the double meaning behind this one).

  1. Sweet or salty? I like a combination of both… served together!
  2. Which ingredient(s) do you use most? a good Sherry wine
  3. What’s your favorite cooking smell? Fresh baked bread!!!
  4. What’s your favorite kitchen gadget/appliance? A Kuhn Rikon red chef’s knife  & yellow paring knife from williams sonoma.
  5. What won’t you eat? Any and all Seafood!

Meet Your Friend: Peter

In an effort to get to know the participants in our Triple F nights everyone will take turns answering some food related questions in a seires of blogs called “Meet Your Friend.”

Lets start with Peter!  Peter created the idea of Triple F and together with his wife Debbie host the Triple F nights on a monthly basis.

Peter & Son Jacob (His other love besides food, and Debbie of course!)

Peter & Son Jacob (His other love besides food, and Debbie of course!)

Sweet or salty?

Why set limits. Either is fine by me and sometimes both at once. yum chocolate covered bacon.

Which ingredient(s) do you use most?

As much spice as my wife will let me get away with.

 What’s your favorite cooking smell?

I’m going to have to go with the classic smell of bread. Nothing makes me hungrier.

 What’s your favorite kitchen gadget/appliance?

Thinking about it I can’t really pin one down as my absolute favorite. I use pretty much everything in my Kitchen to cook.

 What won’t you eat?

There is nothing I won’t try at least twice. Twice because it might have been cooked badly the first time. Plus there are so many ways to cook everything that there is bound to be a way to cook it where it is good.

Who taught you your skills in the kitchen?

The food I’ve burnt over the years. It inspired me to cook better.

Who are your favorite Food Network Star?

Alton Brown hands down. Because I’m kind of a food geek also.

What’s your favorite dish to prepare?

Chicken rice Casserole. Perfected it in college since it’s so easy to make.

What is your favorite sit down restaurant?

All depends on what mood I’m in and what I want to eat.

 What’s your favorite cuisine?

Going back to the mood thing.  Man I’m moody!

What are you craving right now?

Heading out to one of my favorite places to get tacos so would have to be tacos.

What Brings Friends Together? Food!

Food, friends, & fun is a common trio but as Emeril would say, “Let’s kick it up a notch!” Add the desire expand our recipe box to this already amazing trio and you get the great concept of the Triple F Party!

I asked Peter why he started having Triple F nights. This is what he said:

“The idea for the “triple F” party has been bubbling in my brain for awhile. A few months ago Debbie and I wrote down all the recipes that we cooked for dinner on a regular basis. The list ended up being about 10 items long which is very surprising considering we both like food so much. In an effort to expand our list of stock meals, we started trying new recipes out of the cookbooks we had. As it turns out looking through a cookbook to make something you’ve never had before, and don’t know if you’ll like, is very daunting. About this time a friend of Debbie’s gave her a recipe to try, saying that her husband and child loved it. She made it that week and it was really good. This got me thinking that I hadn’t been using the best resource out there for new recipes, our friends. I started wondering how many of our friends were in the same stock recipe rut like us. Finally it all came together that we could all benefit from some new ideas in the kitchen by sharing all our favorite recipes.  Having everyone bring the cooked dish is just added bonus.”

Over the next few month, you’ll get to meet all of the people behind the amazing recipes posted on this blog in a series of post called “Meet Your Friends”

Mini Burger Cupcakes & Fries

Megan & Cedar’s original from a box cupcakes are always a crowd pleaser so why not change them up to fit the All American theme. Add a little brownie & some sugar cookies (yes, from a box) and you’ve got these adorable mini burger desserts.

 IMG_1163

Ingedients:

1 box of Betty Crocker yellow cake mix

1 box of brownies

1 roll of break & bake sugar cookies

Red, Green & Yellow frosting

Sesame seeds

Sugar

Jumbo Foil Tins

Directions:

Prepare cupcake mix, bake in jumbo foil tins on a cookie sheet (not a cupcake pan) filling each cup about 1/3 of the way full. Sprinkle top of cupcake with sesame seeds as soon as they are removed from the oven. Bake brownies according to instructions on box.  Roll out sugar cookie dough, cut dough into small strips and bake approximately 5-7 minutes, sprinkle with sugar as soon as cookies are removed from the oven. To assemble mini burger, use round cookie cutter to cut brownies into round pattie, cut cupcake in half, top bottom layer with the brownie. Use frosting to add condiments to the burger, add top of the cupcake to complete the mini burger. Serve next to sugar cookie fries.

Enjoy!

Corn Bread Salad

Debbie did a great job on this one. She adapted the original recipe and used an easy to make corn bread casserole instead of plain corn bread. This gave the salad a creamy consistency… very delicious!

  3. Mix together and pour into 8×8 greased pan.
  4. Cook in oven for 30 – 40 minutes or until brown.
